New Delhi, Aug 8 : The government has accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 145 proposals worth Rs 3,99,800 crore in the last three years. Out of 145, 103 proposals worth Rs 2,46,400 crore were approved under ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ ‘Buy (Indian)’, Buy and Make (Indian) and ‘Make’ categories of capital acquisition, the Lok Sabha was informed few days back. In a reply to question raised by BJP law maker Manoj Tiwari, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said, “The capital expenditure on procurement of defence equipment by three services from Indian vendors has increased from Rs 31,575 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 41,873 crore in 2016-17.” On Letters of Intents (LOIs) and Industrial Licenses (ILs), the minister said so far 342 LOIs and ILs were received from 205 domestic companies from manufacturer of a wide range of defence items to public and private companies. Thirteen ILs were issued to 12 Indian companies for manufacturer of fighter aircraft, helicopter or their components in the country. In the last three years, the government has allowed some of foreign companies to have tie-ups with Indian vendors for indigenous production involving transfer of technology under ‘Buy & Make (Indian) projects and ‘Buy & Make’ categories of capital acquisition. Projects which were approved include 155mm, 52 caliber Mounted Gun System, Extended Range (ER) Rockets for 122mm GRAD Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher, Successor to Air Defence Guns, New Generation Ammunition for 84mm Rocket Launcher and Mini Ploughs Sets. These all were being done to build world class manufacturing infrastructure in the country so as to reduce dependence on imports and to reduce the cost in the long run. UNI
