Srinagar, Aug 1: After missing several deadlines, the Jehangir Chowk-Baramulla flyover on Srinagar airport is likely to be ready by this year end though a portion will be thrown open very soon as 700 workers are working round the clock.      
    Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, has declared Pantha Chowk-Nowgam stretch of bypass as “ No Parking Zone” with immediate effect.
      An official spokesman said here this evening that 
         Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar today visited the under construction Jehangir Chowk-Barzulla flyover to take stock of the pace of work at the prestigious project.
The Minister was satisfied with the work at the project and stressed on the need to stick to the deadlines. 
He said Mr Naeem was informed that that more than one kilometer of flyover is complete and now only crash barriers and associated work is to be completed. The officials said that currently traffic light poles are being installed over the completed portion. 
It was revealed that more than 700 workers are working day and night to complete the project that will greatly ease the traffic problems in the city.
Mr Naeem expressed his satisfaction that all the issues related to the flyover have been resolved thus expediting the construction work.
The Minister said that first phase of flyover from Amar Singh college to Rambagh will be completed soon and second and final phase will be completed by the end of this year. The Minister toured the entire one kilometer stretch of completed flyover.
He directed the officials to undertake beautification of the buildings adjacent to the flyover so that the travel on this flyover will be a pleasant experience.
He said that the macadamisation process of the roads underneath the flyover are also being undertaken simultaneously to ease the traffic flow.
The Minister said that work on Mahjoor Nagar bridge and grade separator at TRC is also in full swing and together with Jehangir Chowk-Barzulla flyover, they will resolve majority of traffic problems in Srinagar.
         Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a meeting to review utilization of holding area for trucks at Pantha Chowk and status of shifting of General Bus Stand (GBS) Batamaloo to New Bus terminal Parimpora.

The meeting was informed that 16 kanals of land adjacent to Pantha Chowk belonging to SDA was identified for utilization of parking area for trucks near the Highway.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the SDA officials to develop the area and hand over it to Traffic Department. He also asked the SDA to construct barricades at the entry and exit points of the area.
             Mr Khan also announced Pantha Chowk to Nowgam highway stretch as no parking zone. He directed the Traffic Department to ensure that no truck is parked on this stretch and directed them to take strict action against the violators.
The meeting was also informed about measures being taken to decongest city from traffic jams particularly shifting of General Bus Stand (GBS) Batamaloo to New Bus terminal Parimpora. It was said that the process is underway and the shifting will be completed soon.
             Mr Khan directed SDA officers to construct hall, office space for bus operators, passenger sheds, toilets and other facilities at the new Bus Terminal Parimpora within 15 days so that the commuters travelling from various outstation districts do not face any inconvenience.
             He also directed Public Health Engineering (PHE) engineers to provide round the clock water supply and Power Development Department (PDD) engineers were also asked to ensure uninterrupted electricity to the new Bus terminal.
             Mr Khan asked Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to deploy enforcement team in the area and clear all encroachments quickly so that passengers walk freely at the new bus terminal. It was said that SMC will also construct additional lavatory blocks at the terminal under Swachh Bharat Mission.
             On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner constituted a team of officers from RTO, SDA, SMC and Traffic Department which will report to Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar on daily basis about the day to day progress of Shifting of GBS Batamaloo to New Bus Terminal Parimpora.UNI
