SRINAGAR, AUGUST 24: Minister
of State for Housing & Urban Development, Social Welfare, Health &
Medical Education, Asiea Naqash today took a tour of Srinagar city to review
the functioning of Sewage Treatment Plants (STP).
The Minister visited several STPs including Hazratbal, Habak, Nishat,
Brarinambal and Noorbagh.
Reviewing the functioning, the Minister directed officials to prepare a
Detailed Project Report for undertaking upgradation of existing STPs and
establishment of new units to manage huge bulk of sewerage, besides ensuring
systematic disposal of sewerage in the city in a scientific manner.
Asking the officials to work in coordination with the executing
agencies, the Minister said that upgradation and construction work of new STPs
should be processed in a smooth manner without disturbing the existing setup.
On her visit to Noorbagh STP, the Minister sought details regarding
progress of work on the plant. She asked the officials to ensure
completion of works which are being executed by NBCC within the stipulated
period of time.
While at Brarinambal, the Minister asked the officials to work on DPR
for 18 Million Litres Daily (MLD) plant – to be built at an estimated cost of
6.5 crores – so that overload from other plants of the city is incorporated into
that.
The Minister was informed about the technologies used in these STPs and
was also apprised about the construction of one of the biggest, 46 MLD, Sewage
Treatment Plant at Gupt Ganga, Nishat – which will use FAB, one of the
latest, technology.
Asiea was informed that the plant will be completed within next three
years and would use latest technology of sewage disposal.
The Minister was also briefed about progress on various existing and
ongoing projects, techniques being employed and the advantages of the new
treatment plants for the city.
Besides STPs, the Minister also took stock of the newly constructed
parking lot at Nishat. She asked authorities to make people aware about this
place so that the traffic congestion from famous Mughal Garden is reduced.
The Minister was accompanied by Vice-Chairman LAWDA, Chief Engineer UEED
and other officials.
