New Delhi, Aug 23: The voting to the by-election for Bawana Assembly constituency today began on a slow note with 27.5 voter turnout recorded till 1300 hours. "In Delhi's Bawana Assembly by-election, 27.5 per cent polling reported till 1300 hours," an official of the EC stated. The official said that heavy rain have also affected the polling. In the first three hours, only 17 per cent have exercised their franchise. Glitches in the EVMs at two polling stations also affected voting but was resumed later. The polling which began at 0800 hrs morning, will continue till 1800 hrs. Till now, the voting has been peaceful with no untoward incident reported from anywhere in the constituency. The by-election is witnessing a three-cornered contest between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and BJP. As many as 2,94, 589 electorate will determine the fate of the contestants including three-time former MLA Surender Kumar. It is being held with VVPAT machines. The by-election was necessitated following AAP MLA Ved Prakash's resignation. The BJP has fielded former AAP legislator Ved Prakash, who had switched over to the party during the MCD polls, the ruling AAP fielded Ram Chandra, a veteran party worker and social activist and Congress three time former MLA Surender Kumar.
