Delhi, Aug 31: The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
has bagged the ninth rank in the global list of scientific government
institutions, according to the World Report of a renowned ranking firm.
According to a statement issued here today, the Chinese Academy of Sciences
topped the list of 1207 Government institutions, followed by the Centre
National de la Recherche Scientifique, France; Helmholtz Gemeinschaft, Germany;
Max Planck Gesellschaft, Germany; Consejo Superior de Investigaciones
Cientificas, Spain; Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia; Japan Science &
Technology Agency, Japan; Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Italy and Leibniz
Gemeinschaft, Germany, it added. In overall global ranking, CSIR, having
pan-India presence, stands at 75th position among the 5250 institutions
worldwide. It is the only Indian organisation to have secured a place in the
Top 100 Global Institutions, the statement added. It said the Scimago
Institutions Ranking (SIR) is a science evaluation resource developed by
Scimago Labs based on data from Scopus, to assess worldwide Institutions. The
ranking is based on a composite indicator that combines three different sets of
indicators based on research performance, innovation outputs and societal
impact measured by their web visibility, so as to reflect scientific, economic
and social characteristics of institutions, it added. UNI
