KATHUA, AUGUST 31: District
level girls athletic meet under ‘PAHAL: Ek Kadam Nari Samman Ki Aur’, an
initiative of the district administration to implement ‘Beti
Bachao Beti Padhao’ programme was held today at Sports Stadium where Deputy commissioner,
Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest.
The athletic meet dedicated to female students of government as well as
private educational institutes is organized by the Department of Youth Services
and Sports wherein female students from 12 Zones of the district are participating under
different disciplines of athletics.
At the outset, DC welcomed the endeavour of Youth Services and Sports
Department for organizing the athletic meet and declared athletic meet open.
Deputy Commissioner in his address said that administration has rolled
out calendar of activities to educate people from every walk of life to improve
the declining trend of child sex ratio under PAHAL initiative.
Underscoring the importance of these athletic meets, DC said that these
events provide platform to those talents who are residing in remote places and
are getting less exposure. He also said that best performing athletes at
district level will be selected for State level competition and directed the
concerned officers to provide them assistance so that they can bring laurels to
our State as well as the Nation.
Highlighting ‘Khelo India scheme’ launched by the Central Govt. for Development of Sports in our country,
DC said that among other things the scheme provides for creation of sports
infrastructure and other similar facilities. He also said that the State Govt.
is leaving no stone unturned to provide state of the art sporting facilities to
the budding players and in the coming times they will see significant
improvement in sports paraphernalia.
He further encouraged the students to actively participate in various
sport events and hone their skills as sport now a days can be taken as a
profession and urged the parents to motivate their children to pay equal
importance to sports and studies.
DYSSO, Subhash Chander, DIO, Physical Education Teachers and students in
large numbers were present on the occasion.
