PULWAMA, AUGUST 23: J&K State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), in collaboration with Shirkat Community Based Disaster Preparedness Project run by CSSS J&K and supported by Caritas India conducted one day disaster preparedness training and mock drill at Pulwama, today for Community Volunteers of 10 Village Disaster Management Teams of Awantipora & Kakapora.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Aamir Ali, Director, Disaster Management and Dy. CEO, SDMA.
Speaking on the occasion Aamir said that community plays a vital role in disaster management and are always the first responders.
He actively engaged the participants in mock drills, emergency rescue methods and appreciated the CSSS-Shirkat team for reaching out to the community and conducting training for community preparedness.
The training was conducted by expert trainers from SDRF and Civil Defence.
Dr. G.M Dar, Associate Professor, Disaster Management Centre, IMPA Srinagar emphasised on the youth to use community based methods for prevention and mitigation so that they are better prepared at community level during disasters.
The Volunteers were trained in Search & Rescue, First Aid and methods to minimize the losses during any disaster. Visual sessions were given and ground exercises were also carried out by the trainers & experts.
Project Coordinator Shirkat Altaf Hussain presented vote of thanks and assured that more such community based DRR training would be held, in the future.
