Gorakhpur, Aug 16 : Flood waters have threatened the city after water released from Nepal into Rapti and Rohini rivers today. Waters have starting inundating low lynching areas of the city. District Magistrate Rajiv Rautela told reporters here that low lying areas have been vacated while embankment were strengthened. He admitted that several low lying g areas in the city have been submerged with flood waters. He said food packets are being distributed among the affected people. As a precaution, electricity has been switched off in the area while all schools and colleges were closed. The situation in the city turned grim when waters started flowing from the western parts of the city from Domnigarh Bundh on Rapti river at 0700 hrs this morning. Due to breach in the embankment, seven localities like Zafar colony, Bahrampur, Rasulpur and Piprapur witnessed water logging. The District Magistrate said preventive measures are underway and the situation would be normal by this evening. UNI
