Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 10: Inmates of an old age shelter home run by 'Ma Vindhyavasini Mahila Prasikshan Evam Samaj Seva Sansthan' were taken to the BRD Medical college here for a health check-up as they seemed to be in a feeble state of mind.

The organisation has come under scanner after girls were rescued from a shelter home run by it in Deoria following allegations of sexual exploitation of inmates.

After the old age home at Rajla in Deoria district was sealed by the administration, the inmates were sent to a shelter home at (Samaj Kalyan Vriddha Ashram) in Kushinagar.

Since 22 inmates of the old age home seemed to be in a feeble state of mind, Dinesh Mishra, the manager of the old age home in Kushinagar, took them to the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur yesterday afternoon.

"The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kushinagar district said that 21 female inmates and one male inmate of the old age home was unfit. The medical college did not admit the inmates and at around 7.30 pm, they told us to take back the inmates after giving medicines to them," Mishra told reporters here.

When contacted, principal of the medical college Ganesh Kumar said, "Old age is not a disease and the doctors may have found them fit during tests, so they have not admitted them."

Twenty-four girls were rescued from a shelter home in Deoria on August 6 after allegation of sexual exploitation of the inmates came to light. On On August 7 the Uttar Pradesh government recommended a CBI inquiry into the case hours after a girl missing from there was found at an old age home run by the same NGO in Gorakhpur.

Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 3: The Samajwadi Party today accused the Uttar Pradesh government of encouraging corrupt practices at Gorakhpur's state-run Baba Raghav Das Medical College, where nearly 60 children died allegedly due to disruption in supply of liquid oxygen last year.

"Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath says his government has zero tolerance for corruption. But in his home town, BRD Medical College is involved in a scam of Rs 5 lakh per month in purchase of liquid oxygen," SP district president Prahlad Yadav said.

"During previous governments, the medical college used to purchase liquid oxygen at the rate of Rs 16.50 per litre. After August 10 last year, the hospital started purchasing liquid oxygen directly from a company in Rajasthan at the rate of Rs 19.39 per litre. The consumption of liquid oxygen at the college is from 1.20 lakh to 1.50 lakh litre liquid oxygen gas per month. During peak months like August, the consumption is even more," Yadav said, alleging a scam of around Rs 5 lakh per month.

Asked about the source of his information, Yadav did not offer any.

"We have our sources and we know it. If government wants to say something, they should come out with proof to deny the allegations made by us."

More than 60 children, mostly infants, died at the hospital within a week in August 2017. There were allegations that the deaths occurred due to disruption in oxygen supply over unpaid bills to the vendor. The state government had vehemently denied that a shortage of oxygen led to the deaths.

The district president also said that the state government was not making hospital data public and maintaining secrecy. During the previous Akhilesh Yadav government, directions were given to the hospital to release admission, death and recovery data by 4 pm every day.

When BJP Mahanagar president Rahul Srivastav was asked about the issue, he said, "All allegations made by the SP leader are baseless. The rates (of liquid oxygen) have increased due to GST."

The consignee is Ramchandra Gupta, a businessman of Basti, and the wagon was booked in his name in 2014 from Vishakhapatnam through Indian Potash limited (IPL), Yadav said.

When contacted, Gupta said, "It was company material and I had not paid for it. The matter is between the company and the Indian railway."

IPL Assistant Marketing Manager in Gorakhpur, DK Saxena said, "Yes, in November 2014 a rake was booked from Vishkhapatnam for Basti area distributers and somehow the wagon was missed from the rake."

Lucknow, Nov 6: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) on Monday expressed deep concern over continued deaths of children in BRD Medical College Gorakhpur. The party holding the medical college administration, the UP medical and health services and UP medical education department fully responsible for these deaths said even after lapse of more than three months of continued deaths no corrective measures have been taken to save ailing children. According to information, during the past few days at least 58 more children have died in this medical college.
The party spokesperson in a statement here on Monday said it is gross criminal negligence on part of the medical college and the state government officers and called for strict action against all those responsible for this. The spokesperson recalled that during August- September this year nearly three dozen children and some other patients died due to sudden disruption of oxygen supply in different wards of this medical college. Thereafter there have been regular reports of deaths of children every now and then, during the last three months, which reflected the utter negligence and apathy on part of the government and its concerned departments. The party, expressing deep anguish and concern over the continued deaths, has asked the UP government to launch a drive all over the state to ensure supply of all types of life saving drugs, oxygen cylinders and various other important equipment, necessary to save precious lives of children and the other patients. The spokesperson said 'despite spending millions from the Government exchequer on medical and health services of the state annually, the facilities available are utterly inadequate and mismanaged. The situation in rural areas is especially a matter of grave concern.' The departments responsible for medical education and health services in the state require urgent reorganisation and weeding out of massive corruption prevailing in them. Unless the departments of Medical Education and Medical and Health Services of the state are taken to task by the state government, such deaths will continue to occur. UNI

Dr Kafeel was among the nine people against whom the UP government had filed an FIR for negligence. Confirming the arrest in Lucknow, Additional director General of Police (Law and Order) Anand Kumar said that the STF arrested the suspended doctor, a former in-charge of the encephalitis department, when he was trying to flee out of Gorakhpur. A local court here had yesterday issued a non-bailable warrant against seven people, including Dr Kafeel, after their whereabouts were not found by the police. Early this week, the suspended principal of the BRD Medical college Rajiv Mishra and his wife Dr Purnima Shukla were arrested on August 29 from Kanpur. The couple are presently in jail under judicial custody. Though the UP government as well as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath refused to accept that the deaths took place due to shortage of oxygen supply in the ICU on August 9 and 10, but surprisingly all the arrests were made holding these people responsible for the tragedy. Lucknow, Aug 21:  Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar is likely to submit in a day, his much awaited inquiry report on children's death in BRD Medical college to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Last night, the Chief Secretary had a meeting with the CM where he discussed about the report, sources here today. "Mr Kumar was ready with his report but after the CM provided more inputs, it was not officially submitted," he said. The submission was delayed as the CM is on a Delhi and Saharanpur visit today and is likely to be done after he returns tomorrow afternoon. Though the content of the report is not made public but an official said that the Chief Secretary has suggested long term strategy regarding payment options for life saving drugs. “As more suggestions were given in that meeting which are likely to be incorporated in the report which will be submitted to government, the source said.” He said a PIL has been filed in this case so the government is not rushing as the High Court has asked the government to spell out the decisions taken. The UP government has been directed by the High court to file its report by August 26. The Chief Minister has ordered a probe into the catastrophe in which 33 children had died on August 10 and 11 when the BRD hospital went out of oxygen as the supplier refused to supply gas due to non clearance of its dues. Source said that Chief Secretary's report has taken into cognisance the report of District Administration as well as that of the expert committee comprising three top doctors of Delhi hospital. District Magistrate, Gorakhpur, Rajiv Rautela, who was asked to inquire into the crisis gave his report which said that “there was disruption in oxygen supply in hospital but there was no senior doctor present in the hospital to tackle that crisis”. A three-member team of doctors from New Delhi said that interruption of oxygen supply was not the reason for the deaths. Allegations of death due to interruption in oxygen supply was “technically incorrect', it said. “As the issue has taken a political colour, the CM wants all points should be covered before the committee submits its report,” the source said. In a post on Facebook, Mr Vadra said,'I'm still wondering, what happened to the case n findings of the 63 children who had died in Gorakhpur. Was it just news for 2 days. We need answers... ' He said answers were needed on the actual cause of the incident, fixing accountability of the incident, the compensation for the affected families as well as on whether steps have been taken to ensure that such an incident does not occur again. 'What was the prognosis (actual cause of the incident). How do we make sure the incident does not occur again? How have the families been consoled n taken care of ? Why is the media not highlighting n following up this case ? Who is responsible n accountable ? Is it just going to be forgotten ?,' Mr Vadra asked in his post. Over 60 children have died in a Gorakhpur hospital since August 7 allegedly due to lack of Oxygen. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is on a visit to Gorakhpur today to meet the families of the children. UNI

Gorakhpur, Aug 19 :  Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi reached the district today to meet the families of the children died due to shortage of oxygen at the BRD Medical College Hospital here recently. Accompanied by Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and AICC general secretary (in-charge of Uttar Pradesh) Gulam Nabi Azad and state president Raj Babbar, Mr Gandhi first went to visit the family members of the deceased children in nearby areas. The Congress vice-president was also accompanied by former Union Minister R P Singh, state legislature party leader Ajay Kumar Lalu and MLA Aradhana Mishra. Mr Gandhi will go to the residence of four such families, whose children have died on August 10, reportedly due to shortage of oxygen supply in the hospital. However, the UP government had vehemently denied such shortage so far. He refused to speak to media on his arrival from New Delhi by a chartered flight and said he will speak after his visit to the hospital at around 1600 hrs. However, Mr Azad in a brief interaction with media, directly blamed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the mismanagement of the hospital. "In spite of being five-time MP from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath did nothing for the hospital," he commented while reiterating that the UP government had conspired to cover up the criminal act of the death of the children due to oxygen supply failure. According to the programme, Mr Gandhi will first go to the residence of Brahmadeo Yadav of Baghagarha village, then to Malawa village to meet the family of Nitesh Shukla, then at Basauli village in Bansgaon to meet Ramashanker and then will go to Khutna village in the Khajni area to meet the families of Jitendra. UNI

Gorakhpur, Aug 19 : Ahead of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's visit to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath slammed the Gandhi scion, saying that the city was not a picnic spot. Mr Adityanath today launched 'Swachh Uttar Pradesh, Swasth Uttar Pradesh' campaign and took broom in his hand to sweep the roads in the city's Andhiyari Bagh locality. Slamming the Congress leader, Mr Adityanath said," Delhi mein baitha koi yuvraj swachhta abhiyan ka mahatv nahi jaanega. Gorakhpur unke liye picnic spot bane uski ijazat nahi deni chahiye (A yuvraj sitting in Delhi cannot think about the importance of cleanliness. Gorakhpur has turned into a picnic spot for them and hence they should not be allowed to do so)." He also termed SP president Akhilesh Yadav as 'Lucknow ka Shahzada' without taking his name and also criticised him for taking the state into the era of backwardness. "These Yuvraj and Shahzada were in Gorakhpur just for a picnic and people should protest against such act," he added. In his brief address before launching the cleanliness drive in the state which will continue till August 25 after garlanding the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar, the CM lambasted the parties, which ruled the state for the past 12 to 15 years for turning the state into backwardness." Governments in last 12-15 yrs ruined institutions in UP for their selfish motives by institutionalising corruption and deprived people of facilities," he added. The CM also blamed the corruption in the administration behind the BRD medical college hospital oxygen shortage and indirectly held the previous Samajwadi Party government responsible for it. "The previous governments in UP did not do anything for cleanliness as they were only interested in minting money through corruption,"he alleged.
