Darjeeling/Kolkata, Aug 21 : GJM leader Niraj Pradhan has been arrested for various charges amid prevailing tense situation across Darjeeling hills even as the Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC) sought the NIA probe into the grenade attack at Kalimpong police station and mainstream oppositions - CPI(M) and Congress - demanded immediate convention of a tripartite meeting along with the Union government to resolve unrest in Darjeeling. Former Ward no 8 councilor and GJM leader Niraj Pradhan has been arrested from Kurseong last night for various charges, including damaging police vans and assaulting the government employees during the ongoing movement for statehood for Gorkhas. However, after two successive blasts on Friday and Saturday in Darjeeling and Kalimpong, the Sunday was relatively peace with indefinite shut down entered 69 days. The overall situation, though peaceful but highly tense across the hills. The GMCC held a meeting at Kalimpong yesterday and demanded the NIA (National Investigation Agency) probe into grenade attack at Kalimpong police station on Saturday night in which a Civic Volunteer was killed and two others sustained wounds. The GMCC also demanded that the CCTV cameras at Kalimpong police station be opened for public who ever wanted to see the attackers, who must be punished. "No one should be arrested on conjecture or mere suspicion on the grenade episode, " the GMCC demanded. GMCC convenor Kalyan Dewan alleged that some vested interest parties were behind the blasts to frustrate the peaceful negotiation on Gorkhaland issue. CPI(M) state secretary Surya Kanta Mishra in a statement demanded immediate convention of a tripartite talk to resolving the unrest before the situation went out of hand. Mr Mishra also opined that if the Trinamool Congress government that situation would become complicated if it resorted to repression rather than following the peaceful negotiable settlement. He said that if the Union government and the state go on delaying the tri-partite talk then the situation would go more complication to handle it. Mr Mishra opined that all the stake holders should without any condition should sit together find out an amicable situation in Darjeeling. Congress leader Pradeep Bhattacharya has demanded that state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should immediately convene an all parties meeting on volatile Darjeeling unrest for resolving the ongoing impasse. Rajya Sabha member Mr Bhattacharya while demanding immediate an all parties meeting should be convened by the CM and at the same time the state government should start negotiation with the Gorkha leaders for a peaceful solution to the current unrest in Darjeeling Hills. He also opined that the Union government should also take necessary steps for resolving the trouble of Darjeeling. Slamming the state government for present unrest in Darjeeling, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh alleged that the state government was politicising and adopting a vendetta by filing cases against GJM leader Bimal Gurung and others in blast cases. Mr Ghosh said actually chief minister Mamata Banerjee did not want any negotiation on Darjeeling issue, otherwise she should have delegated authorities/ representatives through government officials or ministers, who could be approached by the Gorkha leaders. "Only she talks about negotiation in public meeting and in Assembly but actually she is politicising the issue and adopting vendetta by filing cases against the Gorkha leaders," Mr Ghosh said. Mr Ghosh demanded the CBI or NIA probe into the blast in Darjeeling and hand grenade charge at Kalimpong police station saying the people of the state had no faith with the state police and the present government. Police police booked Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supremo Bimal Gurung and four others under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for their alleged that involvement in the blast and explosion. UNI
