Mumbai, Aug 29 : At least nine coaches of the 12290 Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto express derailed between Asangaon and Vasind railway stations in Maharashtra today. Five people have sustained minor injuries in the incident. Mr Sunil Udasi, chief PRO of the Central Railway, said the incident occurred at 0640 hrs and no casualties have been reported. Rescue and relief teams have reached the spot. The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained but it is believed that the incident occurred due to landslides caused by incessant rains in the region. Authorities are yet to confirm this fact. Arrangements are being made to carry stranded passengers to their destinations. Railway board Chairman Ashwani Lohani was in constant touch with senior officials of the department who have reached the spot. Trains destined to Nagpur and Delhi are affected. Local people and Railway police are trying to pull out passengers from the mangled bogies. Central Railways have released helpline numbers.
