Baghpat, Aug 29 : District authorities have fully vacated the Barnawa ashram of Dera Saccha Sauda here, soon after the Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had been convicted. Though the entire 750 bigha large ashram was vacated last night itself, some sevadars have been allowed to stay inside to take care of the cows and agriculture field. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ajay Kumar said today the Barnawa Ashram of Dera Saccha Sauda is the second largest ashram of the Dera after Sirsa in Haryana. He said after the chief of the Dera, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had been convicted on Friday last, several devotees came here to stay but they were sent to their homes and now just around 20 sevadars are left to take care of the cows and agriculture fields. However, a strong contingent of police has been deployed at the ashram. The ASP said all the sevadars have been issued photo identity cards so that no one other than the sevadar enter the ashram. The ashram is situated on the Meerut-Baraut Highway where there are large plantations of different fruits and vegetables. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh used to address his devotees in this ashram on first Sunday of every month and generally attended by people from Haryana, Delhi and other districts of UP. Though in the past the villagers of the nearby areas protested against some suspicious activities inside the ashram. A few years back an under construction building inside the ashram had collapsed in which several labourers were killed. But the ashram authorities had covered up the issue. UNI
