Calls for alternate arrangements to deal with exigencies |
SAMBA, AUGUST 30 - Minister
for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today inspected Water
Supply Schemes in Nud, Channi-Mansar, Khoon and Surinsar and directed the
engineers to take steps for augmenting water supply in tube wells.
The Minister was informed that the WSS Nud provides water supply to
Gangeri, Pappad, Bindu Da-Peda and Bakarwal Basti.
The Minister instructed the engineers to maintain cleanliness in and
around the water supply scheme besides keeping alternate pumping machinery on
standby to deal with any exigency.
Sham Choudhary also directed the department to launch extensive
plantation drive around the tube well. He said, “this would
help to prevent breaches and encroachment”.
He further directed the engineers to conduct regular field visits to
know about the requirement and supply of water in these areas for assisting the
farmers.
Earlier, the Minister convened a meeting to review the water supply
position in Jammu.
During the meeting, the Minister reviewed various steps being taken by
the department to augment water supply in the city during summer season
especially in the areas of Rehari, Talab Tillo and Bhathindi
The Minister stressed upon the officers to ascertain water supply
position in the areas facing water scarcity and take measures to further
augment the supply.
The Minister also reviewed the position of water flow in Ranbir and
Pratap canals and directed the officers to take concerted measures for better
upkeep of the canals.
While taking a review of the measures taken by the flood control
department, the Minister directed the concerned officers to identify critical
spots on the banks of rivers and nallahs and take requisite steps to check
floods during heavy rains.
The Minister stressed on better flood control measures in place besides
better coordination among various wings of the department to ensure timely
steps to check any loss of life and property.
