New Delhi, Aug 11 : The major Opposition parties led by the Congress today held a meeting to discuss their strategy against what they called the "anti-people’’ policies of the NDA Government led by the BJP.

The meeting -- which saw the participation of the CPI, CPI(M), The All India Trinamool Congress, the RJD, DMK, the SP, the Kerala Congress, the BSP, the National Conference, the JD(S), the JD(U), the RLD and AIUDF -- was presided over by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and was attended by other senior party leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmad Patel.

The leaders of other  opposition  parties, who were present, included West Bengal CM Mamata Bannerji, Satish Mishra (BSP), Omar Abdullah (NC), Ajit Singh (RLD), Naresh Agarwal (SP), D Raja (CPI), Sitaram Yechuri (CPI-M), Tiruchi Shiva (DMK), Ali Anwar Ansari (JD-U), JP Yadav (RJD), Danish Ali (JD-S), and Badruddin Ajmal (AIUDF).

Coming out of the meeting CPIM) leader Sitaram Yechuri told reporters that the aim was to evolve an Opposition strategy for changing the political narrative. "And a people’s movement was a must to bring this change,’’ Mr Yechuri said.

He praised joint opposition candidates for Presidential and Vice Presidential polls Meira Kumar and Gopal Krishna Gandhi, respectively,  for accepting their invite to contest the poll, while knowing well that the numbers were heavily stacked against them but they did it to uphold the principles of democracy.
