Aug 30: The Indian High Commission in Islamabad has issued a visa to a
Pakistani infant, Rouhaan, for the treatment of his heart disease in India.
According to a report in "The Express Tribune" yesterday, the move
came after many Pakistani Twitter users ran a campaign asking Indian Minister
for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj to grant the baby boy a visa so that he
could be treated in India – a request to which she acquiesced yesterday.
Rouhaan’s mother had sought help to save her baby with a touching message.
Earlier this year, India had imposed a condition that visas would only be
issued to Pakistani patients on the recommendation of Adviser to the Prime
Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. The Foreign Office spokesperson had
responded that the restrictions placed by India on medical visas were “against
diplomatic norms”. UNI
