Muzaffarnagar, Aug 21 : Indian railways have admitted to their lapses and are taking tough action against its officials in connection with the Kalinga-Uktal Express derailment at Khatauli. The route for rail traffic was opened midnight last night, 31 hours after the accident. According to GRP sources, the train services on the Delhi-Saharanpur route was opened for normal traffic at 0038 hrs. First, the Down line was opened and then the Up, but the trains were passing on caution at a very low speed. The railways have suspended four engineers and taken action against other senior officials by sending them on leave or transferring them. The Commissioner Railway Safety would commence his probe today by visiting Khatauli, the spot of the accident. Altogether 24 people died and more than 200 others injured in the derailment in which 14 bogies went off the rails. UNI
