Muzaffarnagar, Feb 26 :  A group of four armed men looted Rs 8 lakh cash from a man in a village here when he was on his way to the bank to deposit the money, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place near Talda village under the Jansath police station limits in the district on Monday, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Alok Sharma said.

Police are searching for the accused and no arrests have been made so far, he said.          [Agencies]



Muzaffarnagar, Feb 17 :   A man was arrested for allegedly supplying arms to the Khalistani supporters, police said Sunday.

Sanjiv Rathi alias Guddu was arrested by the ATS with the help of Punjab Police in Budhana Police Station area on Saturday, they said.


Two pistols and nine cartridges were were seized from Rathi, who supplied arms to Khalistani supporters, the police said              PTI

                                               

A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws over dowry demand in Bhopa village in the district, police said Saturday.  According to a complaint lodged by the woman's father Friday, he alleged that his daughter was burnt alive by her in-laws when she failed to fulfil their dowry demands.


Muzaffarnagar, Dec 15 (PTI) A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws over dowry demand in Bhopa village in the district, police said Saturday.

According to a complaint lodged by the woman's father Friday, he alleged that his daughter was burnt alive by her in-laws when she failed to fulfil their dowry demands.

Police has registered a case against the woman's husband, Station House Officer B P Singh said.

The father and the brother of the man are absconding and search is on to trace them, he said.


 A 38-year-old man was killed and 15 others were injured when their tractor-trolley collided with a canter on the Meerut-kKarnal highway near Itawa village in the district, police said Saturday.


Muzaffarnagar, Dec 15 (PTI) A 38-year-old man was killed and 15 others were injured when their tractor-trolley collided with a canter on the Meerut-kKarnal highway near Itawa village in the district, police said Saturday.

According to circle officer Hariram Yadav, the incident took place Friday and the injured were admitted to a hospital. 

An investigation into the incident is underway, police said.


A 22-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped by three men in the district, police said Thursday.


Muzaffarnagar, Dec 13 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped by three men in the district, police said Thursday.

The incident took place Wednesday when the woman's parents were not present in the house. She was later found in the nearby fields and narrated her ordeal to her parents, Statio House Officer Santosh Kumar said.

The accused also filmed the act and threatened the woman of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone, he said, adding that police are searching the three men who are absconding.


Muzaffarnagar, Oct 16 (PTI) Three men, who were arrested for allegedly looting two police rifles, were associated with the Khalistan Liberation Front and were planning to target former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, police said.

ADG Parshant Kumar told reporters in Shamli district Monday that during interrogation the accused revealed they had looted the rifles as they were planning to target Badal.

Two of their two gang members were absconding, he said.

Kumar said Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Police were alerted after the association of the accused with the Khalistan Liberation Front came to light.

Further investigation was handed over to the ATS, the ADG said.

Armed men had looted two rifles from policemen at the Kamalpur Police checkpost in Shamli district on October 2. Two policemen were injured in the attack.

Later, the three accused were accused and the rifles were recovered from a gurudwara. 

The Uttar Pradesh Police announced an award of Rs 50,000 for the police team which arrested the accused, Amrat Singh, Gurjan and Karan Singh, following an encounter Sunday night.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 16 (PTI)
 The body of a 23-year-old man was found in Shamli district's Babri village following which two people were booked in connection with his death, police said Tuesday.

Saddam went missing a day prior and his body was found in a jungle in the village Monday morning, they said.

A case was registered against the two accused who were absconding. The body was sent for post-mortem and an investigation into the case was on, they added.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 15 (PTI) Disgruntled BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha criticised the BJP government at the Centre over the Rafale deal.

He said a French publication had quoted former French president Francois Hollande as saying that the Indian government had proposed Reliance Defence as a partner for the French aerospace major Dassault Aviation for the deal.

Speaking at a farmers' panchayat in Tawli village Sunday evening, he said questions were being asked why an experienced company like the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was set aside and a new company got the contract for the Rafale deal.

He appealed to all opposition leaders to unite to defeat the BJP in the 2019 general election.

Former Union minister Yashwant Sinha and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also addressed the farmers. 



The Congress and the BJP have been involved in a war of words over the Rs 58-000 crore deal to purchase 36 Rafale fighter aircraft from France, with claims and counter-claims flowing thick and fast.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 15 (PTI) A 50-year-old farmer, who was missing since Saturday, was found dead in Hoshaganj village, police said Monday.

A case of murder was registered against one Abdul who was on the run following a complaint by the farmer's son, SHO OP Choudhary said.

According to his son, the farmer, Nawab, had gone to his fields Saturday but he did not return home later, the SHO said, adding his body was found Sunday evening.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 15 (PTI) Three alleged criminals were arrested in Shamli district's Ragana village after an encounter and two rifles were seized from them which were looted recently from policemen, police said Monday.


Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar said two of the accused and three policemen, including Sub Inspector Ajay Kasana, were injured in the exchange of fire which occurred Sunday night under Jhinjhana Police Station area.

The injured were shifted to a hospital, he said.

The SP said a team led by Circle Officer Rajesh Tiwari arrested Amrat Singh, Gurjan and Karan Singh and recovered the two looted rifles from them. The team also seized two motorcycles and one pistol used in the crime.

Armed men had looted the rifles from policemen in an attack near Chosana police outpost in Shamli district on October 2. A home guard was injured in the incident. Five teams were constructed to nab the accused and recover the looted rifles.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 13 (PTI)
 The district authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli have put a ban on the sale of firecrackers, officials said on Saturday.

The decision was taken on Friday as the district comes under the National Capital Region (NCR), District Magistrate Inder Vikram Singh said.

All Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDM) have been directed to ensure that the ban is implemented strictly, officials said.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 13 (PTI) Following the brutal gang-rape and murder of a 17-year-old Dalit girl, the police have taken several suspects into custody for questioning, officials said on Saturday.

The minor girl was raped by three men in Lank village in Shamli district of the state on Wednesday. The accused then murdered the victim by hanging her from a ceiling.

Several people have been taken into custody and are being quizzed about the incident, a police official said.


Muzaffarnagar, Oct 13 (PTI) The closure of Ganga canal till November 6 for clearing silt and routine maintenance will affect the water supply in 19 districts of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Saturday.

However, the supply to Delhi's Sonia Vihar treatment plant will continue uninterrupted, spokesperson of UP irrigation department Hari Sharma said.

The affected districts include Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Etah, Hathras and Firozabad, Sharma said.

Farmers are advised to use private sources like tubewells and pumping sets to irrigate their fields, he added.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 13 (PTI) A local court sentenced a woman and her lover to life imprisonment for killing her husband here after her opposed their relationship.

Additional District Sessions judge Ravinder Kumar Friday evening imposed a fine of Rs 7000 each on Raheesa and her lover, Rizwan, after holding them guilty under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).

He sentenced them to life imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, on June 15, 2010, the two accused killed her husband, Shahnawaz, who was a shopkeeper, after he opposed their affair.

Shahnawaz's brother Islam had lodged a police complaint in the case following which an FIR was registered.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 12 (PTI) A 17-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped and killed by three persons when she was alone at her house in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said Friday. 

Based on a complaint by a family member of the girl, a case was registered against Sanoj Kumar, Jaivir and Sonu Thursday, Additional Superintendent of Police Ajay Pertap said.

The girl's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the house, the officer said.

She was alone in the house as her parents had gone to Panipat, he said.

The matter is being investigated and a search was launched to nab the accused, Pertap said.

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 12 (PTI) : 
One person was killed and seven others were seriously injured after a tractor-trolley collided with a bus near Saderpur village here, police said Friday. 

The accident took place Thursday night on the Behsuma road, police said. 

The injured people are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, they said.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 11 (PTI) A cleric was arrested for allegedly providing forged documents for getting passport for his wife in Shamli district, police said.

The cleric allegedly applied for a passport for his second wife and gave documents of his first wife, who had already died, Station House Officer Anil Kumar said. 

During investigation, it was found that the passport documents were in the name of first wife. He had married his sister-in-law after the death of his first wife, he said.

A case was registered against him, the officer said.



Muzaffarnagar, Oct 11 (PTI)
 A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men after being forced to drink liquor at Nasirpur village in the district, police said Thursday.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Sube Singh, the woman was hired by two men to work as a labourer in a field.

She was forced to drink liquor on Wednesday following which she was allegedly raped by these men, he said. 

The woman has been sent for a medical examination, police said.

A case has been registered against the accused and a search is underway, they said.



Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 8 (PTI)
 Three men were booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a 26-year-old woman here in the district, police said Monday.


According to a police complaint lodged by the woman, she was sexually assaulted and beaten up by Dev Anand, Rahul and Manoj Kumar at Laker Sanga village under the Kotwali police station limits on Sunday. 

On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered against three accused who were absconding, Station House Officer (SHO), Kotwali police station, Anil Kapervan said, adding that the woman was sent for a medical examination.



Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 8 (PTI) The body of a 40-year-old farmer, with its throat slit, was found in the district, police said Monday.


The body of Saleem was found near Sindhawli village under the Mansurpur police station limits on Sunday evening, Circle Officer (CO) Rajiv Kumar Singh said, adding that the hands of the deceased were found tied.

Saleem, a farmer, had gone to irrigate his fields on Sunday evening, Singh said.

A case was registered in connection with the incident and a probe launched, the police said.
