BANDIPORA, SEPTEMBER 01: In order
to provide safer road facilities to the people and to reduce mortality and
accident rate by 50 percent by 2020, the District Development Commissioner
Bandipora today convened a meeting of concerned officers to discuss and
formulate ‘Action Plan for Road Safety measures’ in the district.
The DDC
stressed upon all the stake holders to be proactive in formulating a
comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan on priority basis as per the guide lines
of State Road Safety Action Plan.
He also stressed for identifying black
spots, initiating remedial measures, installation of signage’s,
painting of roads at appropriate spots and generation of awareness for making
roads more safer in the district .
On the
occasion the DDC was informed that R&B Department has formulated an Rs 72
lakh plan for treatment of black spots on three major roads in Bandipora,
including Bandipora-Sopore road and Bandipora-Sumbal road.
Education
Department has also formulated a plan for initiating an awareness campaign in
this regard. Removal of encroachment from the roads, which also is an important
contributory factor for bringing down the rate of accidents in the district,
was discussed in detail.
ARTO
Bandipora was asked to initiate awareness activities in the district on a wider
scale, involving schools, colleges, youth associations, NGOs, etc.
Police
department laid emphasis on enforcement action to curb the nuisance of
overloading, particularly during peak hours. Similarly, the Health department
was asked to make blood storage facility available in specified health
institutions.
The meeting
among others was attended by officers of Education, R&B, Municipal
committees, Police, Information and Health departments.
