Infiltration bid foiled, two militants killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 16: Alert troops foiled a major infiltration bid when they gunned down two militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara this morning, official sources said. They said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Machil sector under the cover of darkness. However, when challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons, which was retaliated. Two militants have been killed, initial reports said. The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they said, adding that additional security forces have been rushed from nearby camps to further tighten the cordon in the dense forest.
