Sep 2: Manipur government has placed an IPS and an MPS officers under
suspension while retirement benefit of a retired IPS officer has been withheld
as disciplinary action for alleged irregularities in procurement of belt for
Manipur Police personnel. The suspended police officers were F. Gonglin, IPS,
SP Senapati and M. Kumarjit, MPS, Additional SP (Ops), Imphal East district.
The retired police officer whose retirement benefit was S. Manglemjao, IPS
(retired) the then IGP-(Ops). The police officers were not to leave their
stations or headquarter without obtaining permission of the competent authority
during the period of suspension. Chief Minister N Biren Singh ordered a probe
into the procurement of belt for police personnel as the belts were found to be
of low quality. When he visited the store he found that the belt was made of
paper like material. UNI
