LA panel reviews functioning of R&B Deptt

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 25: The Committee on Public Accounts of Jammu and Kashmir, Legislative Assembly today held review meeting under the Chairmanship of Mohammad Akbar Lone to examine the Audit para No. 3.20, 3.21, 4.2.9 to 4.2.13 and 4.2.6 to 4.2.8 contained in the CAG's report for the year 2015-16, 2007-08 and 2006-07 respectively pertaining to the Public Works (R&B) Department.

Legislators, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Shamim Firdos, Ajjaz Ahmed Khan, Abdul Rashid Dar, Pawan Kumar Gupta, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, Ghulam Nabi Monga and Firdous Ahmed Tak attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions to improve the functioning of the PWD, R&B department and its allied sectors.

Accountant General, J&K Shourjo Chatterjee briefed the Committee about the various CAGs reports and Audit paras pertaining to PWD(R&B) Department.

The meeting reviewed the pace of ongoing projects in Jammu and Kashmir and sought details about the physical and financial achievements. After threadbare discussions, the Committee decided to drop maximum Audit Paras pertaining to the PWD & R&B Department.

The Committee directed the higher authorities of PWD & R&B Department to submit   status of the road and Bridges sanctioned  under the various sector like NABARD and PMGSY in the State. The Chairman   laid stress on prioritizing the completion of ongoing projects, instead of taking up new works.  He also called for taking up projects which would benefit maximum number of people in a particular area.  

The Committee also constituted two Sub-Committees under the Chairmanship of MLA Ajjaz Ahmed Khan and Javid Mustafa Mir to visit on the sport at various sites and ascertained financial status and present status of ongoing project of Roads and bridges in the State.

The committee took a serious note for not attending the meeting of PAC by the engineers and warned to them to remain careful in future.

Earlier, Commissioner/ Secretary R&B, Sanjeev Verma apprised the Committee about the status of ongoing projects of department.

Director General Accounts & Treasuries Altaf Hussain, Chief Engineer MED Kashmir Vijay Raina, Chief Engineer MED Jammu Amresh Raina, Chief Engineer R&B Jammu Sudheer Shah, Superintendent Engineer, R&B Udhampur, Superintendent Engineer, R&B, Jammu and senior Engineer   of R&B and NABARD, Special Secretary, Legislative Assembly, Rattan Lal Sharma and officers/ officials  of Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
