JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 29 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood
Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today said children are the building blocks of the
society who need proper guidance right from the beginning years to rise and
shine in the future.
He called upon the teachers, parents and grandparents to guide and
counsel children to make them responsible citizens thereby ensuring their
contribution in the development of the country.
The Minister was speaking during Grand Parents Day celebrations
organized by Dream Care Playway School at Abhinav Theatre.
MLC, Vikram Randhawa, Chairman, Unique Higher Secondary School Jasbir
Singh, Chairman, Dream Care Playway School Jagdish Gupta, teachers, students
and parents were present in the function.
He further said there is a need to educate children about the cultural
heritage of the state and asked the school management to organize sports
competitions, debates, seminars, painting competitions and other co-curricular
activities for the overall development of children.
Appreciating the cultural performances presented by the students, the
Minister said these activities take children closer to their social, cultural
and ethnic values.
Later in the day, the Minister also chaired a meeting to review the
status of water flow in Ranbir canal, Partap Canal, Ravi-Tawi Irrigation
Complex and their distributaries.
In the meeting, the Minister directed the officers to carry out
extensive plantation drives along the canals and their distributaries. He
further asked them to ensure that the water reaches every agricultural field in
Jammu.
Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, P.N Bali, Chief Engineer,
Ravi-Tawi Irrigation Complex, H.C Jerath and other executive engineers were
also present in the meeting.
