Seeks funding for JK's agriculture sector
NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 07: Minister
for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, today called on the World Bank to
continue to provide technical assistance to the agriculture sector of Jammu and
Kashmir.
The Minster made this request while meeting the World Bank
representatives in New Delhi.
Stressing that the State has a clear advantage in vegetable, mushroom,
honey, saffron among other crops, the Minister said the World Bank assistance
will help create the necessary infrastructure and marketing facilities for
farmers.
He informed the representatives that the State’s
agriculture sector met massive damages in 2014 floods and requested that the
World Bank continue to provide assistance to the State Government.
The World Bank representatives assured the Minister of provision of
technical assistance to the State.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that cluster production can
be a game changer in the whole agriculture scenario and Small and Medium
Enterprise will be given push to change the scenario. He also said that the
Agriculture department of the State is looking to explore e-commerce avenue to
meet the changing marketing demands.
