RAJOURI, SEPTEMBER 28: Asserting that every drop of water was crucial for existence of life on the earth, the District Development Commissioner, Rajouri Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today called upon the officials and public to go beyond sloganeering and adopt practical means to conserve water.
He was speaking at an awareness campaign "Jal Hi Jeevan" organised by the PHE Department to mark 13th day of ongoing countrywide "Swachhta Hi Sewa" drive.
Students, Anganwari workers, helpers, civil society members, VLWs, GRS and officials of various government departments participated in the campaign.
"Water Conservation includes all the policies, strategies and activities to sustainably manage the natural resource of fresh water, to protect the hydrosphere, and to meet the current and future human demand", he said adding it has become a routine practice to dump the household waste and industrial effluent in the water bodies rendering it unfit for human usage., which should be checked to conserve this precious resource.
He stressed that the cleanliness drive should become part and parcel of life instead of restricting it to fifteen to twenty days only.
On the occasion, Chief Executive Engineer PHE Rafiq Khan, Executive Engineer PHE Nisar Khan, District Panchayat Officer Naresh Kumar and CMO Suresh Sharma deliberated upon the importance of conserving water and ways and means to achieve this objective.
