Hyderabad, Sep 5: Hundreds of idols of Lord Ganesh including the massive 57-feet Khairatabad one were immersed in the Hussainsagar lake till late this afternoon as lakhs of people viewed the eyeful ceremony. Men,women and children watched with awe as the Khairatabad idol, a hit with the people of the city and its environs for its mammoth size, was being lowered into the lake with the help of a giant crane. Hussainsagar lake and its surrounding areas were jam packed with people who came to watch the immersion ceremony which will continue till late tomorrow afternoon. Earlier,the Khairatabad and other idols were brought to the lake in a huge, colourful procession from different parts of the city. The idols of Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, were also immersed in various water bodies and lakes on the outskirts of the city. Tight security arrangements were made by deploying more than 24,000 police personnel to ensure smooth and orderly immersion of the idols. Traffic restrictions and diversions were also imposed on several roads in view of Ganesh shobha yatras and immersion. Eds: Pick up suitably from earlier immersion series. UNI
