Sep 23: Countering the massive build up, the Bharatiya Janata Party has
initiated to recapture power in Karnataka, the ruling Congress today fired its
first volley by launching a campaign 'Congress at the doorsteps' (Mane Manege
Congress). The launch saw Chief Minister Siddaramaiah AICC Congress incharge, K
V Venugopal and Party President G Parameshwar visiting houses and offering a booklet
highlighting the achievements of the Party. The campaign would cover all the
224 Assembly constituencies with leaders visiting every house and issuing the
booklet. Simultaneously the Congress would also highlight the 'failures' of the
BJP government at the centre. Mr Siddaramaiah, later addressing a public
meeting, lashed out at the BJP government at the centre saying that its
anti-people policies had put the lives of common people in distress and people
in Karnataka will teach the saffron party a hard lesson in the next Assembly
election. The two KPCC Working President S R Patil and Dinesh Gundurao,
Election Campaign Committee President and Minister D K Shivakumar was among a
large number of leaders who went to visit the homes in Mahadevapura locality in
the city. The party also launched a programme to issue identification card to
over 6.5 lakh booth committee members of the party who would man over 65,000
booths during the election time. Mr Parameshwar said the Congress party had
fulfilled 155 out of 165 promises made in its manifesto before winning the 2013
election and the remaining would be fulfilled shortly. A Mangaluru report said,
district in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated campaign and said 'Mane
Manege Congress campaign' aimed to take up welfare projects introduced by the
state government to the doorstep of the general public. The campaign will
enlighten the public on the achievements of the state government and failures
of the Modi led NDA government at the Centre. 'We will now take Congress to the
doorstep of the public. The objective is to maintain peace and harmony in
society, to let know people on the achievements of the state government and
failures of the central government,' he said. Chief whip of Legislative Council
Ivan D'Souza, MLA J R Lobo, corporators Sabitha Misquith, Rauf, Akhila, D K
