Sept 16: A Congress policy planning group-led by former Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh arrived in this summer capital today on a two-day visit to
ascertain the ground situation in the Valley. The group completed the first leg
of its visit to the state after visiting Jammu region on September 10 and
September 11. The Singh-led Congress policy planning group also included former
union ministers P Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni. “The group
will meet about 40 delegations, including politicians, members from civil
society, besides people from other walks of life, during its two-day visit to
the valley,” a Congress leader said. The panel will also interact with media
persons in the evening today. Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi recently
accused the policies of the BJP-led NDA government headed by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi for creating space for militants in Kashmir. Union Home Minister
Rajnath Singh, during his four-day visit to the state from September 10, said
he will meet the Congress group after their visit to the Valley to get their
feedback on the situation. UNI
