Sept 15: President Ram Nath Kovind today paid floral tributes to BJP
ideologue Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Smriti Upvan
Vatika in Charbagh area of the state capital. On the second day of his Uttar
Pradesh visit, his native state, Mr Kovind went to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya
Smriti Upvan Vatika and paid tributes to the leader by garlanding his statue.
The BJP is celebrating the birth centenary of the ideologue this year. UP
Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also accompanied the
President to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Smriti Upvan Vatika along with other BJP
leaders and state ministers. After visiting the Upvan Vatika, the President and
other leaders returned to the Rajbhawan where Mr Kovind would meet some
dignitaries and leave for Kanpur at 1330 hrs. Yesterday, on first day of his
visit, the President paid floral tributes to Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar at the
Ambedkar Mahasabha and thereafter attended the civic reception at Indira Gandhi
Prathisthan in the evening. Mr Kovind also attended a dinner hosted by the
Chief Minister at his official residence last night . Today in the afternoon,
the President will participate in a 'Swachhta hi Sewa' programme in Kanpur. He
will also inaugurate a Solid-Liquid Waste Management Scheme in Kanpur and
distribute tri-cycles meant for carrying garbage among 'safai' workers. The
Governor and Mr Adityanath will also be present at the event. The President is
also likely to visit the residence of RSS leader Ishwar Chandra Gupta in the
Tilak Nagar area of Kanpur during his visit. He will return later in the
evening to Lucknow and then fly back to New Delhi. UNI
