Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 8: Heavy rainfall in Osmanabad, Beed, Latur, Hingoli and Jalna districts since last evening, has boosted chances of sowing of Rabbi crops. Reports from Beed district said incessant rainfall of above 65 mm recorded in Beed, Nalwadi, Limbagan, Patoda, Yerala, Daskheda and Aasthi mandals where numbers of irrigation projects were overflowing due to heavy rainfall. Average 20 mm rainfall was recorded in the region in eight districts. Osmanabad registered highest rainfall of 50 mm, followed by Beed 36 mm, Latur by 20 mm, 13 mm in Hingoli district, 11 mm in Jalna district, 9 mm in Prabhani district and the lowest 5 mm in Aurangbad district since last evening, Divisional Commisoner office sources said. The Marathwada region has recorded 476 mm average rainfall, which is 81 per cent of expected rainfall and 61 pc of annual rainfall till the date. Due to heavy rainfall, several projects built under the ‘Jalyukat Shivar’ began overflowing at several places, which may help increase the level of the ground water as well as major, medium, small and Kt weirs in the region. According to the agriculture experts, the return of monsoon would be helpful for sowing Rabbi crops in the regions and increase the water stock in major projects. UNI
