Kolkata,
Sep 1: Barely a few weeks are left for Durga Puja. So orders for articles
used during Durga Puja are coming thick and fast to exporters and vendors in
Bengal. The Bengali Association of Yorkshire in England has placed orders with
the State Government for 8,000 of the red lotuses of Bankura. The
government-run West Bengal Agro Industries Corporation Ltd. (WBAIC) is
coordinating with the lotus growers in Bankura district. Quite a few
associations in London have conveyed to the State Government the need for other
essential articles too – dhan (paddy leaves), durba (a type of grass), baelpata
(leaves of wood apple trees), kola-bou (a stem of a banana plant decked up as a
woman), etc. WBAIC is facilitating all requirements for these overseas Durga
Puja committees. After England, now the Bengali associations of the USA too are
showing a lot of interest in asking the Bengal Government to fulfil their
requirements. Naturally, all this is also leading to farmers and cultivators
feeling happy, and what better gift than this during the Puja season. UNI
