Sep 6: Senior-most Trinamool Congress leader and party MP Professor
Saugata Roy, accused of taken money from Narada news CEO Mathew Samuel which
was documented in a sting operation, today deposed before the CBI's
investigating officials at Nizam Palace in the city. Prof Roy, the Lok Sabha
member representing West Bengal's biggest parliamentary segment Dumdum,
appeared at Nizam Palace in the city around 1020 hours to face a barrage of
queries from the CBI officials, who have been probing the scam following the
Supreme court directive. Prof Roy, has been accused of taken Rs 5 lakh during
the sting operation, which had been documented in 2014 and came to light in
2016. The CBI officials wanted to know if he had taken money and from, whom he
did or what he did with the money if at all he had received Rs 5 lakh. The CBI
sent summon notices twice to Prof Roy. The CBI also quiz former India football
midfielder Prasun Banerjee yesterday for over three hours at Nizam Palace.
Before this the CBI officials had quiz TMC's Aarambag MP Aparupa Poddar in the
same case at her home in Hooghly on August 31. The CBI filed an FIR naming 12
TMC leaders and one IPS officer SMH Mirza in the Narada sting scam. UNI
