Sep 27: With the impending threat and communal violence, Tripura police
has made massive security arrangements to ensure peaceful celebration of Durga
Puja festival in the state. Director General of Police (DGP) Akhil Kumar Shukla
today said, although there is no specific threat, but the state administration
had left no stone unturned to ensure peaceful celebrations of Durga puja
besides, mobilisation of clubs and social organisations. He said, nearly 4500
police personnel and equal number of TSR personnel have been deployed
throughout the state to maintain law and order and to regulate traffic movement
during busy hours at night. There will be a total of 142 Police assistance
booths including 24 in Agartala city. Apart from those, as many as 79 watch
towers were being constructed in all critical locations including 12 towers in
Agartala, Mr Shukla stated. He pointed out that the final figure of Durga Puja
celebration is reported about at 2436 places in Tripura including 1482 rural
locations this year. As many as 482 Durga puja is organised in Agartala and
surroundings areas, Mr Shukla said. DGP said the sensitive and important places
where foot falls are expected to be more will be kept under CCTV surveillance
and so far 85 CCTVs were installed across the Agartala city and police have
hired more 106 CCTVs. He however, claimed despite some clashes and violence in
Tripura Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas, the administration
assured the organisers including in Mandwai and Khumulwng of security for the
celebration, as life limps back to normal gradually. UNI
