Delhi, Sept 30: Banwarilal Purohit, who was on Saturday appointed Tamil
Nadu Governor, is a veteran in Maharashtra politics. A two-time Congress MP and
one-time BJP MP from Nagpur, Mr Purohit was in August 2016 appointed as the
Governor of Assam. He is a public personality involved in social, political,
educational and industrial fields of Vidarbha in Maharashtra. Purohit is also
credited with the revival of ‘The Hitavada’, an English daily founded by Gopal
Krishna Gokhale, a mentor to Mahatma Gandhi. His appointment as the Tamil Nadu
Governor comes at a crucial time when the AIADMK government is facing the
possibility of a floor test after TTV Dinakaran-supported MLAs raised the
banner of rebellion. UNI
