Karnataka, Oct 30: Thirteen people were killed and more than 15 others
injured when a overcrowded tempo carrying a marriage party dashed against a
tree near Manchanayakana halli in Maddur taluk of the district late Sunday
night. Police said the incident occurred when the driver of the tempo lost
control over the vehicle while trying to overtake another vehicle and dashed
into a roadside tree. The impact was so severe that all the inmates in the
packed tempo sustained serious injuries. While two people died on the spot the
remaining succumbed to injuries in Mandya and Mysuru hospitals. Seven among the
seriously injured have been shifted to NIMHANS in Bengaluru. Deputy
Commissioner Manjushri said the victims belonged to few villages in the
district and they were going to attend a wedding on Monday. UNI
