SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 7: A free
five-day Visual Assessment Camp for the visually impaired children in the age
bracket of 6 to 18 years of Srinagar organized by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)
in collaboration with Chief Education Office, Srinagar commenced here today.
The camp will be held at five different locations which includes Boys
Middle School, Hazratbal where the camp will be held on October 9.
Whereas, the camp will be held at Girls High School, Narwara on October 10,
at Girls Higher Secondary School, Rainawari on October 11 and at
S.P. Higher Secondary School on October 12.
On the inaugural day, around 100 children were screened by the team of
eye specialists at Boys Middle School, Shalteng. The eye specialists informed
that among the screened children, 60 percent need to use spectacles which will
be given to them free of cost.
Around 20 percent of screened children were referred for surgical
corrections and for further referrals these children will be treated at
District Resource Centers. The assistance of Rs 10,000 will be provided by SSA
in case of surgeries.
Project Director, SSA, Abdul Rashid War said the assessment camp will
also cover out-of-school visually impaired children with special needs in the
age group of 6 to 18 years. He said,“We are organizing such type of camps
for other disabilities too to help the students by providing appliances free of
cost.”
District Coordinator, SSA, Showkat Hussain, Field Officer, Mushtaq Ahmad
Shah, State Coordinator Inclusive Education, T.R Mangotra and other concerned
officials were present on the occasion.
