SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 04: Continuing the discussions with
working group, stakeholders of Knowledge Initiative, the Advisor to Chief
Minister, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo today interacted with Secretary, Art &
Cultural Academy, Director Handicrafts, Srinagar, Director Technical Education,
Srinagar and Principal of Degree Colleges from Kashmir and Jammu Division.
The meeting was also attended by Financial
Commissioner (Coordination) Resident Commission, J&K Government, New Delhi,
K B Agarwal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal, senior
officers and officials from education and Higher Education department.
During the
meeting, Prof. Mattoo stressed upon the stakeholders, principals of colleges
and schools to impart skills, teaching, learning research and innovation that
will be drawn from global best practices and traditional norms, preparing
policies, guidelines and schemes to ensure full literacy and competitive
employability through an optimal use of existing infrastructure and human
resources available in the State.
He also stressed to preparing a blueprint for
information and communication technology initiatives that can harness the human
resources talent in the State. He said a plan and guidelines for the creation
of knowledge clusters that can become a hub of state of the art technology,
research and innovation through the participation of major stakeholders.
Prof. Mattoo asked for preparing a blue print for the
creation of a knowledge township in the state that will provide a state of the
art environment for the youth to become globally competitive and where there is
a seamless transition from studying to training to working to living within the
same geographical space.
He stressed upon the heads to make the students able
to exist in the present world of competition by imparting them quality
education. Vocational training to the youth of the state would also help them
in long way and it should be taken along with the regular education to the
students, Prof Mattoo asked to the heads.
He also asked the heads in helping the government in
formulating the education structure so that students after finishing their
secondary education can start their own venture or avail opportunities to grab
various jobs in the market.
During the meeting, academicians and other members
shared their suggestions for transforming present education system and pitched
for the strengthening of skill development and job-oriented courses based on
modern curriculum.
