UDHAMUR, OCTOBER 13: To mark
International Day for Disaster and Risk Reduction, Civil Defence, SDRF, DDMA,
Udhampur Friday organized an awareness-cum-training programme here at Boys Government PG
College.
District
Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest, while SSP, Rayees
Bhat was the guest of honour.
In his address, the DDC said that youth are torch bearers of the nation
and such training programs will infuse confidence and sense of responsibility
towards varied challenges including the natural or manmade disasters.
He said
that the district is landslide, flood and accident prone area due to which many
precious lives are lost every year. “But such losses can be minimized by
spreading mass awareness among the people in general and youth in particular” he added.
He called upon the youth to participate in Civil Defence and SDRF activities
with zeal and enthusiasm so that they can serve at the testing times along with
the government agency.
Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Shamshar Singh elaborated on the
importance of observing the day.
On the occasion, SDRF team conducted Mock drills to demonstrate the
rescue exercises at the time of fire incidents, landslides, handling of
advanced equipments of SDRF and civil defence, providing first aid to disaster,
snake bite victims and cardio pulmonary resuscitation.
The programme was attended by Principal of the host College, S.S.
Bhalwal, Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria, GM DIC Suram Chand Sharma, PO
DRDA, Dr. Jagdish Mehra, CMO, Dr. K.C Dogra, DFO, SF Dr Rajan Singh, Secretary
Red Cross V.P Sharma, Executive Engineers , PDD, PHE PWD, and officers of
various departments.
