DC reviews arrangements for festival of lights

RAJOURI OCTOBER 13: District Development Commissioner Rajouri Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today said the district administration will organize a community Fete to celebrate the Festival of Lights-Diwali. 

He was speaking at a meeting of district officers convened to review the arrangements being put in place for celebrations of the upcoming Diwali Festival.

The meeting decided to set up stalls for sale of firecrackers at old bus stand, new bus stand, DIET ground and old pump house. The DDC directed AC Revenue to assess the maximum number of stalls to be allowed at each location keeping in view all the safety measures.

 The meeting also finalized various arrangements like security, maintenance of law and order, traffic regulation, drinking water and power supply, sanitation, Medicare, checking of rates and quality of eatables besides deployment of fire tenders.

The PHE and PDD departments were instructed to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply during the festival. EO Municipality was asked to issue a sanitation calendar for maintaining cleanliness in the town during and after the festive days.

The DDC also constituted joint teams of officials of FCS & CA, Legal Metrology and Food Safety Departments for intensifying   market checking to keep a check on overpricing, profiteering, black-marketing besides ensuring the quality of sweets and other eatables.

Earlier SSP Yougal Manhas briefed about the arrangements made for security in district for the festival. AD FCS & CA Javid Iqbal also informed that there is sufficient stock of ration, sugar and LPG in the district to meet out the needs of the consumers.

Dr. Shahid further informed that the district administration will organize a Diwali Fete to celebrate and share the greetings of the “Festival of Lights” at community level. He nominated District Social Welfare Officer and District Information Officer as nodal officers for organizing the Diwali Fete.

The meeting was attended by ACR Abdul Qayoom Mir, CPO Abdul Hamid, CEO RDA Dr. Tahir Firdous, Executive Engineers of PHE & PDD, other concerned officers, president Beopar Mandal Rajesh Gupta and president Sanathan Dharam Sabha Danish Sharma.
