BUDGAM,
OCTOBER 14: District Disaster Management Authority (Civil
Defense) in coordination with the district administration Budgam today
organized a day-long workshop on disaster management, preparedness and rescue
at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall in Budgam.
The workshop was presided
over by DG SDRF, Dr Dilbagh Singh, as chief guest whereas DDC Budgam Mohammad
Haroon Malik and SSP Budgam Tejinder Singh were guests of honor on the
occasion.
Large participation, of students,
rescue volunteers, home guards, Aganwadi workers, Fire & Emergency workers,
was seen on the occasion.
While inaugurating the
workshop, the DDC in his address said there is need to regularly organize such
workshops. He elaborated on the role of students, volunteers and other agencies
in handling emergent situations.
He said that the first
response during an emergency is the most essential rescue period and to face
such an eventuality our response force should be fully prepared and also in
combat position negotiate this all.
The DDC said hazards of any
natural calamity or manmade disasters could happen any time without warning and
that the administration must remain pro-active and fully equipped with all
first aid resources to tackle such an emergency.
Speaking on the occasion, DG
SDRF said their focus was to involve youth, who can provide helping hands
during such crises. He said their objective must be to avoid the adverse impact
of hazards and means to check them from turning into disasters.
The day-long workshop also
witnessed mock drill of first aid presented by SDRF and other concerned rescue
workers. A mock exercise by medical teams and fire and emergency workers and
home guards was also displayed during the workshop.
