Oct 26: Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today held talks with Assembly
Speaker V Vaithilingam who reached here last night after a two-month holiday in
United States. It may be noted that the Union government had nominated three
BJP activists-Party State President V Saminathan, Selvaganapathy and Shankar
–to the territorial assembly where the BJP have no representation. Since, the
Speaker delayed the swearing-in of the members, Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi
administered the oath of office to the three at the Raj Nivas, triggering
criticism. The Pradesh Congress Committee here registered strong protest to
this action of the Lt.Goveror and K Lakshminarayanan, a Congress legislator
moved the Court and the case is still pending. In this backdrop, Mr
Vaithilingam left for the US on a two month holiday keeping the nominated
members issue pending. The Chief Minister met him at his residence and held talks
reportedly pertaining to the nominated members issue, prevailing Political
Situation in the Union territory, the Intervention of the Lt.Governor into the
day-to-day affairs of the government and among other things. Since, the Home
Ministry had forwarded all documents pertaining to the nomination of the
members to the Chief secretary, the entire political circle is looking upon the
Speaker to known his decision on the issue. UNI
