BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 13: Minister
for Horticulture, Syed Basharat Bukhari today said that the Government is
committed to promote walnut production in Uri area for which various
initiatives are already under implementation.
He said that the area has a huge potential in walnut and other fruits
and the need of the hour is to provide a proper mechanism so that the industry
is strengthened.
The Minister said this during his visit to the Uri area of Baramulla
district where he met growers and listened to their grievances. He assured them
that their genuine grievances will be redressed at an earliest so that a
conducive atmosphere is provided to them for the promotion of the industry.
Meanwhile, the Minister said that a mandi will soon be formally declared
in Uri area and a smooth mechanism will be formulated to streamline the trade
there. He said that various Government initiatives like the recently introduced
Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) have been launched so that the growers and
other related are benefitted.
Secretary Horticulture, Manzoor Ahmad Lone, District Development
Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash and various other concerned
accompanied the Minister.
