4: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), West Zone, will hold a regional
conference on various issues and solutions related to environment protection at
Dhanvantari Auditorium, AFMC, Wanowrie, on October 7 and 8. The event will be
inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and presided by Supreme Court
judge Madan Lokur, NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice Umesh D
Salvi, among others. Supreme Court Justice D Y Chandrachud will deliver the
keynote address at the event, while the Chief Minister will deliver the
presidential address, NGT Bar Association president Advocate Asim Sarode said
in a release. The valedictory session will begin with a speech from Supreme
Court Justice A M Khanvilkar and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikar, it added.
Delegates from Maharashtra Goa, Gujarat, Daman Diu, along with judges from high
courts and district courts, environmentalists, lawyers, academicians and
students will be participating in the event. Karhale said three technical
sessions will be conducted as part of the event, to be presided by eminent
judges such as Justice Abhay Oka (Bombay High Court), Justice P P Bhatt (High
Court of Gujarat) and Justice P Jyothiman (Judicial Member NGT (SZB) Chennai.
The conference will focus on the requirement of environmental awareness among
all the stakeholders in relation to various emerging issues of environment and
to understand the importance of sustainable development it compliance with the
environmental laws. The conference will provide a new a dimension to the
environmental jurisprudence from a scientific and legal perspective, it added.
