Srinagar,
Oct 28: Train service resumed this morning after remaining suspended on
Friday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where a general strike was
observed on separatist call. 'We have resumed all train runs after suspending
the service for security reasons following advisory received from police on
Friday night, a senior railway official told UNI. He said train run resumed on
Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir. Similarly,
trains will chug on Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in
Jammu region, much to the delight of passengers. Saturday and Monday remained
witness heavy rush of passengers, he said. About the hardships being faced by
the passengers when the trains are cancelled, he said,'We cannot help as we are
acting on the advice of police whether to run the train service or not.'
However, he said,'During strike or encounters near railway tracks, we are
suspending train service as a precautionary measure for the safety and security
of passengers and railway property.' Last year, train service remained
suspended for about six months due to summer unrest. However, this year train
service remained suspended only on strike days or if there is violence after
encounters between militants and security forces. UNI
