Srinagar,
Oct 27: Train service has been suspended again for security reasons in the
Kashmir valley, where separatists had called for a general strike on October
27. "We have suspended all train runs on Friday for security reasons
following advisory received from police last night", a senior railway
official told UNI. He said no train will run on Srinagar-Badgam in the central
Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir. Similarly trains will not chug on
Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
"We are acting on the advice of police whether to run the train service or
not, he said adding during strike or encounters near railway tracks, we are
suspending train service as a precautionary measure for the safety and security
of passengers and railway property. Last year train service remained suspended
for about six months due to summer unrest. However, this year train service
remained suspended only on strike days or if there is violence after encounters
between militants and security forces. Thousands of people are travelling in
trains in the Kashmir valley daily as it is being considered safe, cheap and
fast against other mode of transport. UNI
