ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 26: A day-long workshop was Thursday organized
at Dak Bungalow, Anantnag by Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell in collaboration
with Directorate of Rural Sanitation, J&K IMPARD and district
administration Anantnag to sensitize the government officers and general public
about the significance of better sanitation practices.
The workshop was attended by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Additional
Secretary, Chief Ministers Grievance Cell, guest faculty from J&K IMPARD,
ACR, district level officers, SDMs of Dooru, Kokernag and Bijbehara, Principals
of Higher Secondary Schools, prominent citizens, traders, manufacturers and
students from various schools.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that he has directed
officers to ensure cleanliness in and around their office premises. He said
that during the Swachchita Hi Sewa campaign, an enormous number of activities
were undertaken where people were sensitized about the significance of
sanitation and clean environment. He added that during the two-week programme, public on voluntary basis
were also involved in the sanitation drives.
The DC said that everybody maintains hygiene at their personal levels
but unless we translate it at the community level, we cannot remain hygienic
because the environment has a direct bearing on our
living. We need to develop as a community so that clean, pollution-free and
sustainable environment is created.
“Maintaining
sanitation is a moral duty of every individual and all religions preach its
significance. We cannot forget the role we need to play as human beings,” said the
DC.
Additional Secretary said that the Coordinator Chief Minister’s
Grievance Cell, Tassaduq Mufti is very keen about sanitation because he links
development with sanitation.
Quoting Tasaduq Mufti, he said that “we cannot prosper unless we are an
informed community and sanitation is one indicator to define us as informed
citizens”.
On the occasion, the resource faculty from J&K IMPARD delved on many
issues in order to educate the gathering about the significance and the ways
and means needed to be adopted for ensuring clean and better environment.
Other speakers highlighted the need to sensitize the public through
information services for which the media has a pivotal role to play. The
constitution of Sanitation Cells in the government offices and green teams in
educational institutions were also advocated for, besides, the involvement of
non-governmental organizations.
