SC riled by counsel's comments on social media

New Delhi, Oct 5: The Supreme Court on Thursday took strong exception to a senior member of the bar making disparaging comments about judges on social media. The remarks were made during the hearing of a suit related to the Bulandshahar gang rape case. Justice DY Chandrachud appeared vexed on how the observations of the apex court became a topic for debate. He also expressed anguish at the manner in which a member of the bar alleged pro-government stand by judges of the Supreme Court. The apex court referred to a Constitution bench the matter pertaining to Azam Khan's statement given in an alleged gangrape case of Bulandshahr . It said the Constitution bench would decide whether people who hold office or public functionary can give any kind of remark or statement to any case. "Some member from the Bar went to the social media saying that the Supreme Court is dominated by pro-government judges. They should come and sit in the apex court to see how the government is hauled up in favour of citizens rights." The dissatisfaction of using social media as tool for erroneous reporting was brought up by senior advocate Harish Salve. "I deleted my Twitter account because of abuses, " Mr Salve said. UNI
