New Delhi, Oct 10: The Supreme Court on Tuesday at 3.45pm would hear the matter pertaining to Karti Chidambaram's alleged illegality in the FIPB clearance for Rs 305-crore irregular foreign direct investment in the INX Media in 2007. A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud was hearing the arguments from the central government and from Karti side. Karti's lawyer, Kapil Sibal, had told the apex court that his client needed to travel abroad as his daughter wanted to study in Cambridge. The apex court, however, did not pass any order and would hear the matter today. Denying CBI's allegation of multiple foreign bank accounts, Karti told the apex court that his family owned only one asset abroad, his lawyer said. Tusshar Mehta, Additional Solicitor General, (ASG), law officer appearing for the central government, told the three-judge bench of the apex court that Karti has closed his foreign accounts, we have official records supporting it, he added. Sibal objected to it and told the apex court that such statement were guided by malafide and ulterior motive. Sibal further contended before the apex court that there was no need of LoC (Look Out Circular) now, as the interrogations was over. Sibal had told the apex court that Karti was not an accused, he was accused of an offence. The probe is being carried out by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case. UNI
