New
Delhi, Oct 12: India on Thursday asserted that the US Secretary of State
Rex Wayne Tillerson's proposed visit to Pakistan would not have any significant
impact on New Delhi-Washington relations and said both the countries do not
look at the ties through the "prism" of any third country. Asked to
comment on media reports claiming that top US dignitaries including Secretary
of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defence James Mattis would be visiting
Pakistan, the MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said at a media briefing that,
"India-US bilateral relations are very comprehensive and based on merits
and both the countries do not look at the relationship through the prism of a
third country". He said New Delhi also "does not agree" with the
view that there should be any special significance attached to the proposed
visit of US Secretary of State Tillerson and other US top brass. "Of
course we do not agree with this assessment that Tillerson visiting Pakistan
and India together means anything......You all have been following Secretary
Tillerson's comments on Pakistan," Mr Kumar said. According to media
reports, as part of the effort to get Pakistan’s support for bringing about
stability in Afghanistan, the US administration has decided to depute top US representatives
including Secretary of State Tillerson and Secretary of Defence James Mattis,
to Pakistan and also India. To another question on Pakistan Prime Minister
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's recent comments that India in effect has no role in
Afghanistan, the MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said, "of course we do not
agree with his assessment". "Our role in Afghanistan is very clear
and has been articulated earlier also....," he said adding India is keen
for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. UNI
