Delhi, Oct 12: Amid ongoing political turmoil in Tamil Nadu, the state
Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam on Thursday called on Prime Minister
Narendra Modi here and sought to build up pressure by demanding compensation
for the southern state for what has been stated as adverse treatment meted to
it by the 14th finance commission. According to sources in the Tamil Nadu
government, the deputy Chief Minister also handed over a letter from the Chief
Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to Prime Minister and also insisted that there
should be release of pending grants amounting to Rs.17,060 crores for the
state. It was the first meeting of any ruling party leader from Tamil Nadu with
the Prime Minister after the merger of both factions of AIADMK led by Mr
Palaniswami and Mr Pannerselvam. “It’s a courtesy meeting”, responded
Pannerselvam to media persons after the meeting with Mr Modi. The meeting has
placed at a time when several MLAs from the AIADMK have showing the loyalty to
TTV Dinakaran, the rebel leader and nephew of jailed leader VK Sasikala. The
major demands in the letter including the allocation of Coal for TANGEDCO
generating stations, special attention to strengthening the judicial system,
formation of Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation
Committee. The state government has also demanded for the protection of the
traditional fishing rights of Indian fisherman in the Pak Bay and ensuring
