5 quintal organic manure produced from food waste at Yatri Niwas
JAMMU, OCTOBER 04: In a unique
initiative towards better waste management the Directorate of Tourism Jammu in
collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation and technical guidance of State
Pollution Control Board worked on a pilot project of composting of degradable
food waste during Amarnath Yatra at Yatri Niwas.
In its initial foray in line with Swachhta Abhiyan, the Directorate
started this small project of composting of degradable food waste which not
just helped in waste management, at source but generated approximately 5
quintals of high quality organic manure.
This organic manure was distributed to the farmers at Yatri Niwas in a
function held to mark the SWACHHTA Hi Sewa campaign.
Director
Tourism Smita Sethi, Dy. Director Tourism Subah Mehta, Anuradha of State
Pollution Control Board & Sh. H.L. Khajuria (Sanitary Inspector) of JMC
alongwith other officers and officials were present on the occasion.
Apart from this, all sub-offices of Tourism department celebrated
Swachhta Hi Sewa by conducting cleanliness drive in their offices and tourist
destinations and by plantation of saplings.
